Costuming

While some of the earliest costuming I ever did was for the SCA, much of my costuming experience revolved around cosplay as I spent several years attending conventions while in and following college. Although this helped me develop a basic set of costuming skills, I have found that costuming for the SCA is an very different challenge. In particular, it requires a deeper understanding of the history and much more technique; Many of the cosplay "cheats" would be out of place for historical reenactment.

But most importantly, SCA garb needs to be durable. While cosplay needs to only hold up through a few conventions and is rarely worn all day, SCA garb must be entirely functional as it often gets used at numerous events over the course of several years, often at camping events which are far harder on it.

Explored here are some of the sets of garb I've created for SCA purposes, generally highlighting larger projects that are intended as court garb as these projects are more complicated and worth documentation. I do have a fair number of basic tunics and pants that I wear more frequently but are not particularly interesting.
